My good friend and fellow board member, Tom Bellinson, got me interested in the Family Learning Institute. As soon as I met the board and heard about their dedication to the mission of the organization, I knew that it would be a good fit for me, and further developing my purpose of helping children in need.
I am a retired attorney. My last job as a full-time attorney was representing foster children, and children with special needs, in the juvenile justice system. We moved to Ann Arbor in 2008 when our son was 4, and took a break as an attorney, to stay at home with our son. I did some pro-bono legal work, as well as much work with several non-profits.
When my son finished the 10th grade and was in driver’s ed, I knew I needed to extend my purpose beyond the home, and my non-profit work. At this point in my life, I really wanted to work with children and became a teacher.
2019 was my first year teaching, and I worked at a Title 1 school in Detroit. This year I am very fortunate to be working at Holmes Elementary, a Title 1 school in Ypsilanti. I live in Ann Arbor with Marco, my husband of 31 years, who works at DTE Energy, our soon-to-be leaving son, Nicholas, and our two dogs.
I am very excited about being on the board of this amazing organization.
